Getting Started as a New Reseed User

Welcome! This guide is for users who are new to Snowflake and Reseed. You don't need to know anything about Snowflake to use Reseed—this guide will help you get started.

Welcome to Reseed

Reseed is a Snowflake Native App that makes it easy to upload spreadsheet files (Excel, CSV, Google Sheets) directly to your organization's Snowflake data warehouse. If this is your first time using Snowflake, don't worry—Reseed provides a simple, user-friendly interface that doesn't require you to learn Snowflake's technical interface.

Reseed as Your "Front Door" to Snowflake

For many non-technical users, Reseed may be the first time you're invited into Snowflake. Reseed provides a direct and safe way for you to interact with data without needing to learn the full Snowflake interface. Your administrator can provide you with a direct link (APP URL) that takes you straight to Reseed—you'll be prompted to authenticate, and then you're in. No need to navigate through Snowflake's interface just to find and launch the app.

Getting Access

Before you can use Reseed, your administrator needs to:

  1. Grant you the appropriate Reseed application role (RESEED.APP_USER or RESEED.APP_ADMIN)
  2. Assign you to an in-app role within Reseed (if you're a regular user)
  3. Provide you with the Reseed APP URL

If you haven't received access yet, contact your administrator or the person who set up Reseed in your organization.

Accessing Reseed

Your administrator will provide you with a direct link (APP URL) to Reseed. This link looks something like:

https://app.snowflake.com/[account]/apps/[app-instance-id]

When you click this link or paste it into your browser:

  1. You'll be taken to Snowflake's authentication page
  2. Enter your Snowflake username and password (or use SSO if your organization uses it)
  3. After authenticating, you'll be taken directly to Reseed—no need to navigate through Snowflake's interface
First Time Access

If this is your first time accessing Snowflake, you may need to set up your account or change your password. Follow the prompts on the authentication page. If you encounter any issues, contact your administrator.

Bookmarking Reseed

Once you've successfully accessed Reseed, we highly recommend bookmarking the APP URL in your browser. This way, you can return to Reseed quickly without needing to find the link again.

To bookmark:

  • Chrome/Edge: Click the star icon in the address bar, or press Ctrl+D (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+D (Mac)
  • Firefox: Click the star icon in the address bar, or press Ctrl+D (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+D (Mac)
  • Safari: Click the Share button and select "Add Bookmark", or press Cmd+D
Tip

Consider naming your bookmark simply "Reseed" so it's easy to find. You can also add it to your browser's bookmarks bar for one-click access.

Your First Steps in Reseed

Once you're in Reseed, you'll see three main pages accessible from the navigation in the top left:

  • Home — Your personal dashboard showing recent actions and activity
  • Admin — (Administrators only) Manage roles and user assignments
  • Seeds — The main workspace where you upload files and interact with Seeds

Next steps:

  1. Explore the Seeds page to see what Seeds are available to you
  2. Check out the Uploading Files guide to learn how to upload your first file
  3. If you need to create a new Seed, see the Creating Seeds guide
